The acquisitions lists accessible through the links above provide brief descriptions of materials received by the division within broad subject categories, per chronological periods of time. These lists include information on the source and extent of each receipt, and whether it is a new collection or an addition to an existing one. Lists for 1996 through 2006 also list collections of reproductions (generally microform) of materials held elsewhere.
For further information on recent acquisitions by the division, see 2007-2009 and the other chronological categorical listings available above, and Acquisitions Highlights.
Announcements of significant acquisitions often appear in the Library
of Congress Information Bulletin or in press
releases. Brief descriptions of collections are entered
in the Library of Congress online
catalog upon receipt and updated after archival processing
has been completed.
Earlier acquisitions reports
From 1943 to 1978 the Manuscript Division published acquisitions lists and articles in the Quarterly Journal of the Library of Congress (formerly titled Quarterly Journal of Current Acquisitions). From 1979 to 1995 similar lists and essays were published in Library of Congress Acquisitions: Manuscripts. To obtain copies of essays published in reports earlier than 1996, please contact the Manuscript Division.
