European State Finance Database (ESFD) Publisher: Economic History Society It was first developed as part of a project on ‘The Origins of the Modern State in Europe, 13th to 18th centuries’ which was sponsored by the European Science Foundation (1989 to 1992). Coverage includes: ustria, England, France, the Low Countries, Poland, Prussia, Russia, Spain, Spanish America and Switzerland. Much of the data relates to different types of taxes, but there is also material relating to army size, wool and cloth exports and imports and stock prices.

Historical Financial Statistics Publisher: Center for Financial Stability This a free, noncommercial data set on exchange rates, central bank and commercial bank balance sheets, interest rates, money supply, inflation, international trade, government finance, national accounts, and more. The focus is data from roughly 1500 to 1950, although there is earlier and later data. Data is being added so not all sets have full coverage.
