The Hebraic Section presented a book talk, The Ethiopian Jews of Israel: A Book Talk and Discussion, by Irene Fertik, Photographer. Both in photos and text, Fertik chronicles the story of 25 years of change and transition of Ethiopian Jews in Israel.

Friday, May 10, 2019
The Near East Section of the division presented a symposium: Persian Language Rare Materials Digitization Project. The two-panel program offers conversations with experts and library specialists focusing on how Persian manuscripts contribute to the study of language, literature, culture and art history, and how the Library digitizes unique collections and utilizes digital content for outreach and education.

In partnership with the Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa, the Caine Prize for African Writing, the Center for African Studies at Howard University, the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice, and the Department of English at Georgetown University, the Library of Congress African and Middle Eastern Division co-sponsored "Conversations with African Poets and Writers: Makena Onjerika (2018 Caine Prize Winner)."
