Centennial Celebration Lecture by Souleymane Bachir Diagne, Professor of Philosophy and Religion at
Northwestern University, Chicago. An alumnus of Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, Pr. Diagne obtained his Ph.D.
in philosophy at Sorbonne in 1988. His field of research includes history of algebraic logic, history of philosophy and
African philosophy.Dr. Diagne is currently working on a book on Léopold Sédar Senghor’s philosophy.
Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906 - 2001) Senegalese poet and statesman.
Léopold Sédar Senghor had illustrious careers in both Paris and Dakar. He was elected to the French National Assembly (1946-1980).An originator of the concept of Négritude, his work spoke to the African identity in the French-speaking world. He was the first African elected to the Académie Française (1983).
