Gerritsen's Women's History ON-SITE ACCESS ONLY

Access: On-Site Access Only

Description: The Gerritsen Collection of Aletta H Jacobs covers 4 centuries (1543-1945), tracing the evolution of feminist consciousness and women's rights. Containing two million page images exactly as they appeared in the original monographs and periodicals, the collection provides a perspective from women and men alike, from virtually every culture, on the status and the rights of women — including anti-feminist perspectives.

The core of the collection is more than 4,400 monographs, such as Carrie Chapman Catt's Ought Women to Have Votes for Members of Parliament (1879) and Anti-Suffrage Essays by Massachusetts Women (1912). Also included are 265 diverse periodical titles, including The Suffragist and The Women's Protest Against Women Suffrage . Researchers interested in political science, history sociology, economics, psychology, philosophy, education, health, and literature can track the evolution of feminism within a single country, as well as the impact of one country's movement on those of the others.
