Includes discussion of the historic causes of the tension, foreign relations between the United States and the Soviet Union and information on the lives and actions of major figures, such as Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. Issues covered include the Marshall Plan, Truman's Point Four program, NATO, the nuclear arms race, economic aid, the Berlin Wall, and detente. Also covered are the times when the Cold War burst into armed conflict in such areas as Korea, Cuba and Southeast Asia. Part of the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
