Description: A digital library of hundreds of original and important secondary sources for the study of the medieval and modern history of the British Isles. This digital library encompasses the legal, religious, economic, social, intellectual and parliamentary history of England, Scotland and Wales. It offers the ability to browse by place, subject, time-period, type of source, maps and state papers. Subject areas covered include:

  • Administrative and legal history - Sources relating to national and local government (excluding Parliament), and the development of British law.
  • Ecclesiastical and religious history - Sources relating to the churches, religious houses and other religious groups.
  • Economic history - Records of commerce and trade, taxation, population and property.
  • Intellectual, scientific and cultural history - Sources relating to art and architecture, science and the history of ideas.
  • Local historyHistorical and topographical sources relating to specific places.
  • Parliamentary history - Sources relating to proceedings and legislation in the two Houses of Parliament at Westminster.
  • Urban and metropolitan history - Sources for metropolitan London and other urban centres.
