FLICC Disaster Preparedness National Update
Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Background and History: The Library of Congress Preservation Directorate and the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) hosted their fourth meeting on building cooperative disaster response networks.
Goal and Program Description: This morning program, held at the Library of Congress and sponsored through FLICC, featured updates on national and international initiatives on disaster preparedness in cultural institutions. Jane Long, Heritage Preservation; Angela Gladwel, FEMA; and Nancy Gwinn, ALA representative for the U.S. Committee on the Blue Shield spoke. The program concluded with a tour of the new Library of Congress mold remediation space in the Preservation Directorate
Outcomes: The program built upon the foundation established by earlier Safety Net programs by providing information on national and international disaster response efforts. Participants gained valuable knowledge for responding to disasters in their own institutions and for assisting regional partners through national initiatives.
Participants: Program participants included library professionals from federal agencies and cultural heritage and higher education organizations in the greater Washington, DC area and professionals nationally via web conferencing.
Support: FLICC Disaster Preparedness National Update - the continuing SAFETY NET series is a collaborative effort of the Library of Congress Preservation Directorate, the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) Disaster Preparedness Working Group, and the FLICC Safety Net, a voluntary federal library network for disaster response.
