Dates that are associated with the entity described in the record. These include dates:
For a person: a person's date of birth, date of death, and the date or date range of the person's period of activity.
For a corporate body: a date or range of dates on which a conference, etc., is held, or a date with which the corporate body is otherwise associated (e.g., date of establishment, date of termination).
For a family: a significant date associated with the family. It is required when needed to distinguish a family from another family with the same name.
For a person: signifies the period of activity (start), defined as the date or range of dates indicative of the period in which a person begins activity in his or her primary field of endeavour. (RDA 220.127.116.11)
For a coporate body: signifies the date of establishement, defined as the date on which an organization was established or founded (RDA 18.104.22.168)
For a person: signifies the period of activity (end), defined as the date or range of dates indicative of the period in which a person ends activity in his or her primary field of endeavour. (RDA 22.214.171.124)
For a coporate body: signifies the date of termination, defined as the date on which an organization was terminated or dissolved (RDA 126.96.36.199)
Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), for example a URL or URN, which provides electronic access data in a standard syntax. This data can be used for automated access to an electronic item using one of the Internet protocols.
In field 046, subfield $u is used to record the location of external or supplemental information accessible electronically.

These elements are required when needed to distinguish a person from another person with the same name, or a corporate body from another corporate body with the same name, or family from another with the same name.
Field 046 includes subfields allowing the recording of all the types of dates listed above. Note that Start period and End period is to be interpreted broadly: subfield $s start period is used to record period of activity (start) and date of establishment; subfield $t End period is used to record period of activity (end) and date of termination. They are also used to record dates relating to families.
In order for these dates to be machine-processed, it is suggested that the dates should be encoded in a standard structured way, using an ISO 8601 compliant format. A profile for use of ISO 8601, with extensions needed by the community, has been developed and adopted by the PREMIS Editorial Committee. Use of that profile is recommended.
