Message from Deanna Marcum, Associate Librarian for Library Services

November 2009
Welcome to the revised version of the Librarians and Archivists page. We have included links to show you more about Library of Congress resources for librarians and archivists, including those we think are of interest to students involved in their professional library or archival training.
As Associate Librarian for Library Services, I oversee more than 1,700 Library of Congress staff who acquire, catalog, preserve, and provide intellectual and physical access to the magnificent collections of the Library of Congress. Through this Web site, I shall share some of our current activities and initiatives.
I’m happy to announce that I have selected Michael Handy as Deputy Associate Librarian for Library Services. Learn more »
I particularly enjoyed Kay Ryan’s reading at the beginning of her second year as Poet Laureate last month. This month, Tony Hoagland, from Houston, Texas, and Lucia Perillo, from Olympia, Wash., will read at the Library. Learn more »
Also in November, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month.
Finally, we have posted on our Web site a study commissioned from R2 Consulting LLC as a follow-up to On the Record: Report of the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control. Also posted is an internal report of how LC will address the On the Record recommendations over the next four years. I am grateful to both Ruth Fischer and Rick Lugg of R2 as well as the Library of Congress staff who have thoughtfully considered the recommendations in both of these reports.

Thank you for your visit to our site, and please return often for updates and highlights.
