Message from Deanna Marcum, Associate Librarian for Library Services
January/February 2010
Welcome to the revised version of the Librarians and Archivists page. We have included links to show you more about Library of Congress resources for librarians and archivists, including those we think are of interest to students involved in their professional library or archival training.
As Associate Librarian for Library Services, I oversee more than 1,700 Library of Congress staff who acquire, catalog, preserve, and provide intellectual and physical access to the magnificent collections of the Library of Congress. Through this Web site, I shall share some of our current activities and initiatives.
We have staff attending the midwinter meeting of the American Library Association. Please see the Library’s ALA Web site at http://www.loc.gov/ala/ and drop by our booth in the exhibit hall if you are in Boston.
The Matteo Ricci World Map, a rare, 400-year-old map that displays China at the center of the world, is on exhibit at the Library of Congress from Jan. 12 to April 10, before it heads to its intended home at the James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota. The map is on loan from the James Ford Bell Trust. Learn more »
Katherine Paterson was named National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature succeeding Jon Scieszka. Learn more »
Finally, in celebration of its 15th anniversary, the Library’s public legislative information system known as THOMAS has been updated for the second session of the 111th Congress. Learn more »
Thank you for your visit to our site, and please return often for updates and highlights.
