(Sep 30, 2013) President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico promulgated a decree on September 11, 2013, that extensively amends the General Law on Education. He also promulgated other secondary laws on education at the same time. These legislative enactments constitute a major reform of the country's public education system. The President was joined at the signing ceremony for the laws by the leaders of the Federal Congress and by the national presidents of the major political parties of the country. The new legislation was officially published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, the official gazette, on the same day. (Id.)
