(Dec 22, 2010) On December 17, 2010, China and Russia agreed to increase the cooperation between the two nations in law enforcement. During a meeting between Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu and Russian Minister of Internal Affairs Rashid Nurgaliyev, held in Beijing, the two sides signed Minutes of Talks and a cooperation agreement that will cover 2011 and 2012. Speaking about the meeting, Meng said that a good level of cooperation already exists between the law enforcement departments of the two countries, and he expressed the hope that they would jointly develop the strategy for future cooperation in order to safeguard the security and stability of China and Russia and protect life and property. The step-up in cooperation should include enhanced communication to attack the problem of cross-border crime, as well as to protect the rights of the citizens of the two states. (Id.)
Nurgaliyev stressed the importance of the creation of a safe environment for economic and personnel exchanges, which he hopes will result from the strengthened law enforcement cooperation. (Id.)
