(Oct 24, 2008) In response to a request sent to him by some members of the Iraqi Parliament, a Shiite cleric in Lebanon, Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, recently issued a religious edict (fatwa) requiring any agreement with the United States to provide for immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq. (American Campaign to Secure Approval of the Security Pact by Wavering Parties in Iraq [in Arabic], ALJAZEERA, Oct. 22, 2008, available at http://www.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/FD6FC043-C5FE-46DF-884E-D98D75D1AB1F.htm.)
