(Jul 02, 2008) On June 17, 2008, the Knesset (Israel's Parliament) passed the Protection of Workers (Disclosure of Offenses and Harm to Integrity or to Proper Administration) Law (Amendment No. 2), 5768-2008. The amendment was designed to further protect workers who report violations of the law and ethics, by strengthening appropriate civil and criminal enforcement measures. The amendment authorizes the imposition of a no-fault statutory fine, up to a specified ceiling, on a person who violates the law; in addition, the Labor Court may also impose a punitive fine in an amount not exceeding 50 times the amount of the set ceiling, depending on the severity of the violation or the relevant circumstances, including the employer's behavior and its repetitiveness.

The amendment further imposes a criminal penalty of imprisonment or a fine on an employer who harms the conditions of employment or fires an employee in violation of the law.
