Ghana: Two Men Charged with Sodomy

(Dec. 2, 2007) The INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE reported that a British journalist and a 19-year old Ghanaian have been charged with sodomy after police found photos of the two men having sex. The British journalist is also charged with possession of obscene pictures. While both men pleaded guilty to "unnatural carnal knowledge," the journalist pleaded not guilty to the possession charge.

Although sodomy is a crime in Ghana, it is rarely prosecuted. According to article 105(b) of the Ghanaian Criminal Code (Act 29), "unnatural carnal knowledge" is a misdemeanor. This case is said to be the first case of its kind in Accra this year.
