Brazil: Schools Required to Show Films Produced in the Country

(July 3, 2014) A Law published on June 27, 2014, makes it mandatory for public and private schools to exhibit, for at least two hours a month, movies produced in the country. (Ivan Richard, Lei Obriga Escolas a Exibirem Filmes Nacionais Mensalmente, AGÊNCIA BRASIL (June 27, 2014).)

Law No. 13,006 of June 26, 2014 (Lei No. 13.006, de 26 de Junho de 2014, PLANALTO) amends Law No. 9,394 of December 20, 1996 (Lei No. 9.394, de 20 de Dezembro de 1996, PLANALTO). Law No. 9,394 establishes the guidelines and basis for national education programs, and the amendment includes the display of national films as an integrated supplement to the school’s curriculum.
