Supervises and Manages Performance
Definition:
Builds and manages a multi-sector workforce based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs. Ensures staff are recruited and selected using merit principles. Ensures tasks are appropriately delegated and completed by monitoring performance against predetermined standards and requirements and holding staff accountable for meeting expectations. Trains and develops staff, provides constructive performance feedback and appraisals, and takes appropriate corrective action to address performance and conduct issues.
- Integrates and balances service unit and work unit goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs to build an effective workforce.
- Applies merit principles in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Ensures that responsibilities are appropriately delegated to staff according to individual skills, job duties, and work unit priorities.
- Defines results-oriented performance expectations for each staff member, communicates them clearly, and measures individual performance against them.
- Ensures that performance expectations are verifiable, achievable, easily understood by the staff member, and linked to the service unit’s goals in a compelling way.
- Holds staff accountable for meeting performance expectations.
- Provides constructive performance feedback and appraisals.
- Acknowledges the contributions of high performers.
- Takes appropriate corrective action to address performance or conduct issues.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of and appropriately applies Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) provisions and LCR’s related to staff management.
- Maintains a positive, professional relationship with staff while addressing performance issues.
- Promotes ongoing development of staff through the following efforts:
-Ensures that all staff have IDP’s or are given dedicated time to discuss development needs that support the work of the unit.
-Provides staff with feedback on areas of strength and needed development.
-Reinforces knowledge, skills, and new behaviors gained through training and development activities by helping staff apply them on the job.
-Encourages staff to take responsibility for their own development and supports them in doing so.
-Identifies purposeful learning opportunities that inspire a sense of capability and help staff develop skills and knowledge for work assignments and professional growth
