Colin McEwan

Colin McEwan is the new Director of Pre-Columbian Studies at Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection.  Before moving to Dumbarton Oaks, he served as the head of the Americas Section within the Department of Africa, Oceania and the Americas at the British Museum.  For eleven years prior to his work in the Americas Section, he served as Curator of Latin American Collections in the Department of Ethnography, also at the British Museum.  His experience transcends the bounds of his formal training as an Andeanist, for he has attended to a broad range of Pre-Columbian studies, including Mesoamerican, Andean, Caribbean, Amazonian, and Patagonian areas of studies.  He holds a BSc from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and obtained his MA and PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of many books, among them a book co-authored with Leonardo López Luján, “Moctezuma: Aztec Ruler.”
