Sharon Robinson, daughter of legendary baseball hero and civil rights pioneer Jackie Robinson, is the author of several books for young readers, including the acclaimed Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America (2004) and the fiction novels Safe at Home and Slam Dunk, all published by Scholastic. As an educational consultant for Major League Baseball, she founded Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life, a national character education program designed to help students face obstacles in their lives. In her first picture book, Testing the Ice: A True Story About Jackie Robinson (2009), illustrated by Kadir Nelson, Robinson shares a heartwarming childhood memory about her father. Robinson first approached Nelson to illustrate Testing the Ice when they met at the National Book Festival in 2006. Robinson divides her time between Florida and New York.
