Kadir Nelson has illustrated many celebrated picture books for children, including two Caldecott Honor titles, Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad and Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom. His own book, We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball, won numerous honors, including the 2009 Coretta Scott King Author Award. Change Has Come: An Artist Celebrates Our American Spirit features Nelson’s illustrations and the words of President Barack Obama. Nelson is the illustrator of Testing the Ice: A True Story About Jackie Robinson (2009), written by Sharon Robinson. He lives in California.
