Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from the state of Texas. She is a graduate of the University of Texas and the University of Texas Law School and was twice elected to the Texas House of Representatives. She has also received numerous awards and recognition. Her books include American Heroines: The Spirited Women Who Shaped Our Country (2004) and the recent best-seller, Leading Ladies: American Trailblazers (HarperCollins, 2007). The senator’s primary residence is in Dallas.
