Rick Atkinson, staff writer and senior editor at The Washington Post, is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner, for national reporting, public service and history. He is the author of The New York Times best-seller The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943-1944 (Holt paperbacks, September 2008) and the second volume of the Liberation Trilogy, a narrative history of the U.S. Army in North Africa, Italy and Western Europe during World War II. Currently, he is at work on Volume 3 of the trilogy. He lives in the District of Columbia.
