James L. Swanson is author of the New York Times best seller Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer (Harper Perennial, 2006) that won the Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime. Born on Abraham Lincoln's birthday, he has studied and collected books, documents, art, and artifacts connected with Lincoln since he was 10 years old. He is also the co-author (with Daniel R. Weinberg) of Lincoln's Assassins: Their Trial and Execution (William Morrow, 2006).   Besides Lincoln, he has written about the Constitution, popular culture, and other subjects for a variety of publications, including the Wall Street Journal , American Heritage , Smithsonian , and the Los Angeles Times . He lives in Washington, D.C.
