David M. Kennedy is the Donald J. McLachlan Professor of History at Stanford University. His book, Freedom From Fear: The American People in Depression (2000), was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, Francis Parkman Prize, Ambassadors’ Prize, and the California Gold Medal for Literature. His most recent publication is the The Library of Congress World War II Companion (Simon & Schuster, 2007). He lives in California .
