After living in England and Scotland, Deborah Crombie wrote her first book, A Share in Death (1993), in the Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid/Sergeant Gemma James series. Subsequently, her books have been nominated for the Agatha and Macavity Awards and Best Novel Edgar Award. Her fifth novel, Dreaming of the Bones (1997), was a New York Times Book of the Year and was chosen by the Independent Mystery Booksellers of America as one of the 100 Best Crime Novels of the Century. Her latest book is Water Like Stone (William Morrow/HarperCollins, 2007). She lives in north Texas and travels to England several times a year to immerse herself in British culture.
