Bryan Collier, who began creating artwork in his signature style at the age of 15, has illustrated numerous award-winning children’s books. He is the recipient of two Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards, for Uptown and Rosa, as well as Coretta Scott King Honors for Freedom River, Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Visiting Langston. Martin’s Big Words and Rosa were also Caldecott Honor Books. His most recent book illustrations are for Welcome Precious (Orchard Books, 2006), written by Nikki Grimes. Mr. Collier lives in New York City, where he directs mural programs for children.
