William Alexander is the author of the much-acclaimed gardening memoir, The $64 Tomato: How One Man Nearly Lost His Sanity, Spent a Fortune and Endured an Existential Crisis in the Quest for the Perfect Garden (Algonquin Books, 2006). He is a regular contributor to The New York Times op-ed page, and when not tending his garden and orchard or writing, he is the director of technology at a psychiatric research institute. Mr. Alexander lives in New York's Hudson Valley.
