Author Biography

Floyd Cooper

Floyd Cooper

Floyd Cooper, who took an interest in drawing at a very early age, has illustrated more than 15 books in 16 years. He received the American Library Association’s Notable Book Award for his first book, Grandpa’s Face, by Eloise Greenfield (1988) and Coretta Scott King Illustration Honors for Meet Danitra Brown by Nikki Grimes (1995) and I Have Heard of a Land by Joyce Carol Thomas (1999). His most recent book is Jump!: From the Life of Michael Jordan (Philomel Books, 2004). He is the illustrator of the artwork for the 2004 National Book Festival. Mr. Cooper and his family live in Gillette, N.J.
