Douglas Brinkley

Douglas Brinkley

Historian Douglas Brinkley is the author of numerous nonfiction books including three biographies: Dean Acheson: The Cold War Years (1992), Driven Patriot: The Life and Times of James Forrestal (1992), and The Unfinished Presidency: Jimmy Carter’s Journey Beyond the White House (1998) — all chosen as “Notable Books” by The New York Times. His most recent book is Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War (William Morrow, 2004), a New York Times bestseller and he is editor of Windblown World: The Journals of Jack Kerouac 1947-1954 (Viking, 2004). He is director of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies and professor of history at the University of New Orleans; he also lives in New Orleans.
