Author Biography

Stan and Jan Berenstain

Stan and Jan Berenstain

Stan and Jan Berenstain, creators of the Berenstain Bears series of children's books, met on their first day of class at the Philadelphia College of Art in 1941. Their autobiographical adventures are recounted in Down a Sunny Dirt Road (Random House, 2002). Since their first Berenstain Bear book, The Big Honey Hunt (1962), more than 250 titles have been published including The Berenstain Bears and The Trouble with Bedtime (Random House, 2003). In addition to their work on children's books, the Berenstains have written several animated television specials with their sons Michael and Leo, who have also illustrated or written manuscripts for books in the Berenstain Bears Big Chapter Books series. Stan and Jan Berenstain live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
