Storyteller Biography

Sheila Kay Adams and Jim Taylor

Appalachian traditional folk stories and ballads from the mountains

Appalachian balladeer, humorist, storyteller and writer, Sheila Kay Adams will be joined on stage by her musician husband, Jim Taylor. They make their home in a small mountain community in western North Carolina, where many generations of Sheila's family have passed down the English, Scottish and Irish ballads her ancestors brought to this country in the late 1700s. Adams will sing ballads, share stories of her childhood and community, and will play a tune with her husband on banjo and hammered dulcimer. Sheila Adams is a recipient of the North Carolina Historical Society's award for historical fiction and the North Carolina Folklore Society's Brown-Hudson Award for valuable contributions to the study of state folklore.
