PSD policy specialist responsible for this weekly list: Libby Dechman

Classification

F2519.C58

The F schedule and the K schedules both provide specific areas for civil rights of Indians. However, the material being cataloged would be more appropriately classed in K. The proposal was not approved.

The meeting feels that all of the materials on the civil rights of Indians that are currently classed in F would be more appropriately classed in K. Therefore, existing numbers for the civil rights of Indians in the F schedule will be parenthesized and changed to see references to K. These numbers wlil appear on a future list.

QL666.O61-.O6196

Table Q3 cannot be used with Cutter numbers. If Table Q3 were used, triple Cuttering would result. The meeting feels that it would be better to use the general geographic distribution in QL648-664.6. The proposals were not approved.

On Weekly List 09-11 a similar development was approved at QL666.L21+. The numbers for the geographic distribution at QL666.L21+ will be parenthesized and changed to see references to QL648-664.6. These numbers will appear on a future list.

Other decisions:

Birds--Mortality

The proposal was submitted to introduce the term "Birdkills" into LCSH. This reference and its variants represent "upward" references, and are not appropriate on the heading Birds--Mortality. A proposal may be submitted to establish the separate heading Birdkills. The proposal to change Birds--Mortality was not approved.

Disappeared persons' families

The existing BT on this heading is Families. The proposed UF Families of disappeared persons would begin with the same word. The Subject Headings Manual, H 373, sec. 2, states that UFs are not made in instances where the BT begins with the same word or words. The proposal was not approved.

Shepherd Creek Watershed (Ohio)

Shepherd Creek has not yet been established. The Subject Headings Manual, H 800, sec. 9, states that a watershed heading may be established by adding the term "Watershed" to the heading for the name of the river, lake, or other body of water. If the body of water is not yet established, establish a heading for it at the same time. The proposal may be resubmitted along with a proposal to establish a heading for the creek.
