Classification

Changes were made as indicated on the approved list.

Subject Headings

Botanical art; Botanical drawing

The existing heading Botanical illustration covers the topic of botanical drawing. The UF Botanical drawing has been added to that heading. Since it appears that the heading Botanical art was proposed only to be used as the BT for Botanical drawing, it does not seem necessary. Both of the proposed headings were therefore not approved.

Manuscripts, Dutch (Middle)

Since no subject heading exists for Middle Dutch as a language, it does not seem desirable to use Dutch (Middle) as an adjectival qualifier. The existing heading Manuscripts, Dutch seems sufficiently specific. The time period can be brought out by assigning another heading, such as Manuscripts, Medieval or Manuscripts, Renaissance, as appropriate.

Obesity in horses; Nutrition disorders in horses

Headings of the type [disease] in [type of animal] are established only for diseases and conditions that are generally considered to be animal diseases. For diseases and conditions that are common to both humans and animals, headings of the type [disease] in animals are established, but not headings for the disease in specific animals. The specific animal is brought out by assigning the additional heading [type of animal]--Diseases. Since the conditions in the proposed headings are common to both humans and animals, the headings were changed to Obesity in animals and Nutrition disorders in animals. These headings may be assigned in conjunction with the heading Horses--Diseases.

Polar regions in art; Polar regions in literature; Polar regions in motion pictures.

The subdivisions --In art, --In literature, and --In motion pictures are free-floating under geographic headings. Since Polar regions is a geographic heading tagged 151, these subdivisions may be used without being established. The proposals were therefore not approved.

Zanzibari literature; Zanzibari literature (English); Zanzibari wit and humor (English)

Since Zanzibar is a part of Tanzania, the appropriate headings would be Tanzanian literature--Tanzania--Zanzibar; Tanzanian literature (English)--Tanzania--Zanzibar; and Tanzanian wit and humor--Tanzania--Zanzibar. Tanzanian literature and Tanzanian literature (English) are already established. It will be necessary to submit a proposal to establish Tanzanian wit and humor.
