The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) is an international cooperative effort aimed at expanding access to library collections by providing useful, timely, and cost-effective cataloging that meets mutually-accepted standards of libraries around the world.

The PCC has four component programs

  • BIBCO, Monographic Bibliographic Record Program
  • CONSER, Cooperative Online Serials Program
  • NACO, Name Authority Cooperative Program
  • SACO, Subject Authority Cooperative Program

The PCC is an umbrella organization. Iinstitutions can join one or more of the PCC programs and participate in program activities and decision making.

Member Benefits

PCC members participate in programs that shape the future of cataloging and reduce the costs of cataloging for everyone. Members work cooperatively with catalogers and metadata specialists around the globe, and receive training from experienced PCC trainers.

Member Responsibilities

PCC membership is open to institutions that pledge to support the program activities of training, review, and direct contributions of authority and bibliographic records to appropriate databases using program standards.

Cost to Join

PCC membership is free. Members pay no fees for:

  • Instruction or review offered by a PCC trainer. The trainer’s institution offers the time and expertise of a trainer as part of its contribution to the PCC program.
  • Access to PCC training materials and web-based documentation. No subscription is needed to view or download documents mounted on the PCC web pages.

There are some expenses associated with membership. These include:

  • The cost of printing training manuals for participants
  • Subscriptions to required cataloging documentation (e.g., RDA Toolkit)
  • Travel, accommodations, meals, and incidental expenses of a visiting PCC trainer (if applicable; training may be conducted online)
  • Support for staff to attend training away from the home institution (if applicable; training may be conducted online)
