Jean Hirons' talk Jean Hirons' talk prepared for the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) Participants Meeting at ALA Annual 2003, was video recorded in advance at the Library of Congress. Hirons prepared her remarks on the occasion of her retirement from the Library of Congress in June of 2003. She presented her speech to an audience of colleagues from the PCC, ALA, and other library professionals.

Jean L. Hirons was coordinator of the Cooperative Online Serials (CONSER) Program in the Serial Record Division at the Library of Congress from 1993-2003. Hirons' career in CONSER focused on documentation and training-most notably the CONSER Editing Guide, CONSER Cataloging Manual, and the development of the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program. She also led the revision of AACR2 for changes related to seriality and led CONSER during a decade of profound changes in serials due to the emergence of electronic journals. Hirons received the 2002 Margaret Mann Citation from the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS,) a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The Margaret Mann Citation Committee presented the award to Hirons for her "extraordinary contributions to serials cataloging." The citation stated that Hirons has influenced both the theory and practice of serials cataloging in a changing environment. Hirons retired from the Library of Congress in June 2003 to pursue a career as a pastel artist.
